Cancellation of the exam in the Russian language, history and fundamentals of Russian legislation for foreign employees hired under a quota

The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted and submitted to the Federation Council a draft law on amendments to the Federal Law «On the Legal Status of Foreign Nationals in the Russian Federation».
The amendments imply that foreign employees hired under a quota will be exempt from taking mandatory examinations in the Russian language, history and fundamentals of Russian legislation. Furthermore, the time frames, in which foreign professionals arriving in Russia must provide a certificate in Russian language and culture, will be extended to 90 calendar days.
The aim of the draft law is to improve the implementation of the state migration policy, namely reducing the time needed to hire foreign nationals and meeting the needs of the Russian economy more effectively, including the implementation of major investment projects.
A longer period for providing a document confirming the knowledge of the Russian language, history and fundamentals of Russian legislation is intended to ensure a gradual and more consistent language adaptation of foreign specialists employed in Russia. See our review for details.
